Note: For competitive comparisons: The basic hunting program will produce a dog capable of completing a Started Hunting Retriever (UKC) test or Junior Hunter Test
(AKC).
The program usually takes a minimum of 3 months to complete but sometimes can take more or less time depending on the dog. A dog at this level can retrieve birds to hand, pick up 50-75 yard marks in the water or on land and is not distracted by gun fire, but knows the shot is a signal for “bird”.
